The Ghost is the entry level Rolls that was originally launched in 2010 for people who could not afford the Phantom. Although entry level, its still a Rolls-Royce in every respect, classy, refined and extravagant. However the outgoing model had started getting outdated in terms of design, features and technology. Therefore Rolls Royce has completely redesigned the Ghost for 2021.

But what has really changed?

For starters, the New Ghost is based on a new platform unlike the outgoing model which was based on the BMW 7 series. This has made the new Rolls 3.5 inches longer and 1.2 inches wider from its predecessor.

Under the hood it has the new 6.75 litre, V-12 engine that produces 563 horse power and 850nm of torque. It can do 0–100 kmph in 4.6 seconds, which is a crazy number for a full sized luxury sedan. It comes with a 8 speed automatic gearbox along with an all new suspension technology which makes the Ghost one of the most comfortable cars in the world.

Although the Ghost is completely redesigned, there are not to many changes as Rolls-Royce is not known for making dramatic changes to its design. The most noticeable change on the front is the headlights which are now sharper and sleeker, which makes the car look more modern and appealing. The other big change on the front includes the lower grill which is now bigger and sportier. Overall the front looks sporty and aggressive and indeed modern.

At the rear, the design of the tail lights has also been changed. Like the headlights, the tail lights too are sharp and sleek which makes the back look modern. Overall the new sedan looks modern and appealing than the outgoing one.

When you climb inside the new Ghost, the first thing you notice is the new dashboard layout, it’s clean, simple yet opulent. The design team at Rolls-Royce has worked on eliminating all the unnecessary elements from the cabin to make it more minimalist and uncluttered. And indeed the design team has done a phenomenal job.

“The new Rolls-Royce Ghost is the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce yet. It distils the pillars of our brand into a beautiful, minimalist, yet highly complex product that is perfectly in harmony with our Ghost clients’ needs and perfectly in tune with the times.” — Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Ltd.

The interior of the new Ghost is similar to the Phantom and the Cullinan. The instrument cluster now comes with new digital gauges. The central console houses the latest BMW iDrive infotainment system, which is the same system used in other Rolls’ . Besides the infotainment screen is the classic Rolls-Royce analogue clock. A new design to the passenger side dashboard is a new display that light ups to show the car’s name and a more than 850 stars that which is similar to it’s starlight headliner. The company likes to call this the “Illuminated Fascia,” which took around 2 years and more than 10,000 hours to develop. The crazy part is when the car is off it completely invisible and subtly integrates into the dashboard. This indeed is a very unique touch to the new Ghost’s interior.

The interior of the new Ghost is very luxurious. Everything you touch has got a premium feel to it, for instance the climate control dials that are wrapped up in leather. Of course it has the extra fluffy floor mats and the starlight headliner to further enhance the luxurious experience. However that is something that you’d expect from a Rolls-Royce.

Now let’s talk back seats, since most Ghost owners would like to spend most of their time here. It’s a business class seating, with a center console that can be folded in order to make extra room. There various seat functions can be controlled from the center console itself.

The best part however is the infotainment screen, at first you’ll notice that there is no screen back here, because it’s hidden. You’ll have to press a button, after that a picnic table will fold down and the screen will pop out from the back of the front seat. The infotainment system is a large touch screen that enables you to perform a lot of functions. You may also retract the screen to use the picnic table to use your laptop, have lunch etc. This table is made by the same wood, which is used in the rest of the car’s interior. Another special touch back here, the headrest comes with a pillow which futher enhances the level of comfort for the passengers.

Indeed the 2021 Rolls Royce Ghost is a very special car, and even though it looks somewhat similar to the outgoing Ghost, it shares very less with the same. It is expected to launch either later this year or early next year with an expected price of Rs. 6.95 Crore.
